Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which coach to work with? +
Each coach has different specialties and pricing. Start with a free consultation to discuss your main challenges. You can also call Denise at (224) 306-9544 for a personalized recommendation based on your situation.
What if I can't afford the full program? +
Several of our coaches offer sliding scales and scholarships specifically for family caregivers on tight budgets. Kim Shaw-Mack also offers a 2-session option ($150) to resolve one care challenge. Discuss affordability during your free consultation.
What's included in the "free consultation"? +
Your free session is a chance to describe your situation and see if coaching is the right fit. Your coach will listen to your challenges, answer questions about how they work, and explain the program. No pressure to commit.
What if my caree is in the early stages of dementia? +
Absolutely. Many people find early-stage coaching invaluable for planning ahead, understanding what to expect, and addressing early challenges before they escalate. You'll have time to create strategies when everyone has more energy.
I don't live with my caree. Is this program right for me? +
Yes. Caregiving isn't about where you live—it's about the emotional toll. You don't have to live with your caree to feel the weight of worry, stress, and grief that comes with caregiving. This program supports you wherever you are because the challenges you face are real regardless of location.
I don't provide hands-on care for my caree. Is this program right for me? +
Absolutely. Many family caregivers don't provide hands-on care but still carry tremendous emotional responsibility—coordinating care, making decisions, worrying about safety, and managing family dynamics. This program helps you navigate all of that. If caregiving affects your life, this program is for you.
How long does the program last? +
The 5-session program typically unfolds over 5-10 weeks depending on your schedule. You're also welcome to continue coaching beyond the initial package. Many family caregivers extend their work or return later when new challenges arise.
What is Caring Our Way community? +
Caring Our Way is a community of 1,100+ family caregivers and professionals. You get access to virtual gatherings, weekly "Caregiving Comfort" sessions, live chats, special events, and ongoing support during and after caregiving. It's included with all coaching programs.
What is the Everyday Function Scale (EFS)? +
The EFS is an assessment you complete to help your coach understand your caree's current abilities and functional level. This drives the personalized care plans and strategies you'll receive—so everything is tailored to where they actually are, not generic advice.
