What Can I Duplicate?

Before beginning a new project or task, I like to consider what I already created that can be duplicated.

If I can duplicate and then tweak, I save myself a ton of time.

We can think about duplicating:

  • A recipe so that we keep the same staples on hand that can make versions that taste different but include the same process, like a sheet pan meal, or ingredients like herbs and spices that work well with either chicken or pork.
  • A schedule so each week runs on the same rhythm like Meatloaf Monday, Taco Tuesday, Chicken Wednesday, Stew Thursday and Pizza Friday. You also eliminate that awful question, “What’s for dinner tonight?”
  • A system for family functions that runs well because each family member has the same responsibility. Everyone is comfortable and confident contributing to a successful event.
  • A creative process that involves the same steps but delivers a different end product. For instance, you nurture the same kind of environment every time you create, sticking to the same schedule like early morning, playing the same music and enjoying the same coffee. What you produce may differ each time; some days you may write, others you may garden and others day you might simply direct a day dream.

To remind ourselves that we can duplicate to save time while also enjoying a different outcome, we can ask ourselves this question to begin our day: “What can I duplicate?

What can you duplicate?
