When I decide to give myself a lazy Saturday afternoon, I will tell myself: “Enjoy this choice.”
I tend to question my choice, especially when it relates to taking down time. Rather than relaxing, my mind will chide me with statements like, “You should be walking (or working or swimming or cleaning). You shouldn’t be just sitting.” My mind often really wants me to get up to start dusting and vacuuming. I get why I think that — I can see the dust — but my body begs me to simply be still.
So the thought, Enjoy this choice, reminds me not to waste this chance to relax. It’s a blessing to be able to receive rest.
This same pattern of self-doubt can show up for us in other areas throughout our day and our life.
We might second guess other choices we make, like declining an invitation to an event we know we won’t enjoy or making time to pursue a passion like writing a book that others in our life dismiss.
Even when we make a good choice for our own well-being, we might judge ourselves as being selfish. Instead, we can remember to enjoy our choice. We can remind ourselves by asking ourselves this question to start our day: “How will I embrace this choice?”
What’s a choice you can embrace?
